Phu Quoc emerges as the top tropical retreat for Russian tourists

By the end of 2025, a series of direct flights from major Russian cities will begin operating to Phu Quoc. This move is expected to significantly boost the number of Russian visitors during the 2025–2026 winter season and further strengthen the “Pearl Island’s” position on the international tourism map.

According to Travel and Tour World, Phu Quoc is entering a phase of large-scale air connectivity expansion with the Russian market. In addition to existing flights from Moscow and Krasnoyarsk, a wave of charter services from six more cities, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Kazan, Novokuznetsk, and Novosibirsk, will be launched starting November 2025. Furthermore, a Vietnamese airline is expected to operate direct routes from Russia’s Far East cities such as Vladivostok, Blagoveshchensk, and Khabarovsk around October–November this year.

Phu Quoc is the perfect winter getaway for Russian tourists.

Leading Russian tour operators such as Anex Tour, Russian Express, and Space Travel forecast that bookings to Phu Quoc in the 2025–2026 winter season will increase by 30–35% compared to the same period last year. These projections are reinforced by rising awareness among Russian travelers of Phu Quoc, known as a tropical paradise with ideal year-end weather, stunning landscapes featuring some of the world’s best beaches, world-class resorts, and a tranquil atmosphere.

According to the Association of Russian Tour Operators, local companies are actively promoting tours to Phu Quoc, branding the island as the ideal destination for a “perfect winter getaway.” Statistics from PAC Group, a major Russian tour operator, show that Phu Quoc is leading all Vietnamese destinations in hotel bookings for the upcoming winter. ITM GROUP also recorded that Phu Quoc accounts for about 20% of Vietnam’s hotel room sales during the season, and in the peak year-end period, one out of every three beachfront resort bookings is for Phu Quoc.

There are four reasons which make Russian tourist fall in love with Phu Quoc according to Travel and Tour World:

First, the island’s winter climate is perfect for beach vacations, with warm temperatures, low humidity, and minimal rainfall. These conditions make Phu Quoc an attractive alternative to Russia’s freezing winters, offering golden sunshine, white sand, and crystal-clear seas—a truly ideal winter retreat.

The beaches in southern Phu Quoc, such as Kem Beach, captivate visitors with their wide, gentle stretches of sand – ideal for outdoor sports and recreational activities.

Second, Phu Quoc features a wide range of high-quality resorts and accommodations catering to international travelers, from luxury beachfront hotels to family-friendly resorts. Many properties also provide amenities tailored for Russian guests, such as Russian-speaking staff and familiar cuisine, adding comfort and convenience. At Kem Beach—one of the most beautiful beaches in the world—Russian tourists are a common sight. Many choose long stays at resorts like Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay and New World Phu Quoc to enjoy the island’s ideal climate.

Third, Phu Quoc’s appeal goes beyond sun and sand. Visitors can explore tropical forests, waterfalls, and coral reefs, take part in snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and island-hopping, or discover Vietnamese culture through traditional fishing villages, vibrant night markets, and historical landmarks. In the south of the island, Russian tourists can also enjoy experiences found nowhere else in the world: ride the world’s longest three-cable gondola to Hon Thom Island for sweeping sea views, watch the Guinness-recorded multimedia show Kiss of the Sea, visit the iconic non-touch Kiss Bridge praised by CNN, or marvel at nightly artistic firework shows in Sunset Town.

The nightly fireworks at Sunset Town have become one of the highlights attracting international visitors.

Finally, the cost of travel and accommodation in Phu Quoc is relatively competitive compared to many other tropical destinations, making it appealing to a wide range of travelers, from budget seekers to luxury holidaymakers.

“With strong support from both Russian and Vietnamese aviation sectors and tourism stakeholders, Phu Quoc is set to consolidate its position as one of the leading winter vacation spots for Russian tourists. The developments underline the strengthening tourism ties between Russia and Vietnam, promising a vibrant future for this partnership.” Travel and World Tour concluded.
