Vietnam thrash Mongolia in opening AFC U-19 Championship qualifier

Vietnam's national U19 football team enjoyed a resounding 3-0 victory over Mongolia in their opening match in the qualifying round for the AFC U-19 Championship on November 6th.

Enjoying home advantage, Vietnam dominated possession from the opening whistle. Despite this, they faced a number of difficulties due to a resolute Mongolian defence, with both sides going in goalless at half time.

During the second half, Vietnam finally made a breakthrough in the 64th minute with a strike from Thanh Khoi.

After going a goal up, the Vietnamese team pressed their advantage and continued to dominate possession. Eleven minutes later constant pressure caused Mongolian defender Javkhlan to make an error and score an own goal, giving Vietnam a 2-0 lead.

Vietnam then wrapped up the scoring in the 78th minute with a penalty, giving the home team a 3-0 win at the final whistle.

After the opening round of fixtures, Vietnam’s U19 squad are ranked second in Group J, behind Japan in first following their 10-0 thrashing of Guam./.
